This is because without the basic skills you acquire while grinding, that shiny expensive ship will not result in automatic wins. Skipping to higher tiers or premium ships before you're ready will result in frustration. It's what allows you to understand the maps, strategy, strengths and weaknesses of the ships you're sailing and the ships you're fighting. Grinding in this game is what gives you experience.
